What to Catch Now

Wow, a 44-day red snapper season for the charter-for-hire fleet. This is great news for our charter boats and those customers that fish aboard them. Other than “when does red snapper season open,” we are asked “what else will I be able to catch and keep?”  Although this seems like a simple answer, just about every species in the Gulf of Mexico has a season as well as a size and bag limit. During the month of June, our offshore captains will be able to take our customers fishing for red snapper, vermillion snapper, lane and other snapper species, as well as all shallow-water grouper with the exception of gag grouper. Amberjack are closed during June and July, and triggerfish is closed for the remainder of 2015.
